Although rare, there are places whose beauty is difficult to describe. Simply, you feel it in the perfect natural harmony of a roaring river, of a canyon, of lush or sparse vegetation, or of the sky. Rafting the Tara River is an incredible experience for adventurers and na
ture lovers. The Tara canyon, which is 1.3km deep at some points, is the deepest and longest in Europe. UNESCO desiginates it as a world heritage site. There are rocky and pebbly terraces, sandy beaches, high cliffs, and more than 80 large caves along the canyon. The Tara River is the biggest European supply of drinking water. As you go rafting down its rapids you can drink it!
You can go rafting by boat or wooden raft along100km of the most beautiful and the most exciting part of the Tara. You leave from Splaviste, where you can see Ljutice falls, the Tara Bridge (150m high), the old Roman road, and Lever Tara. Then, you pass the wild Funjicki and Bijele ploce rapids, Miso's spring where the canyon is the deepest (1100m), beneath Curevac peak (1650m), the falls of the Draga river, and Radovan luka. The scenery simply takes your breath away by its beautiful nature and the strength of the rapids. There are Tepacki falls, the Susica canyon, and Bailova sige. The rafting ends at Scepan polje.
On your river trip, either lunch or dinner is served in the natural environment by the river. You can taste the regional specialities: cream, cheese, lamb, and bread baked in an iron pan under the embers.
Rafting tours start from these departure points: Splaviste, Radovan Luka and Brstanovica.
The one day rafting route, from Brstnovica to Scepan polje is 18km long and it takes 2 to 3 hours. This part of the canyon is the most exciting because the river has the biggest drop in elevation in the shortest length. There are 21 out of 50 rapids in this part of the Tara.
The rapids are Brstanovici, Pecine, the very dangerous Celije rapids and Vjernovicki rapids.
Have a great time!
Fishing is a sport which many people associate with calm water and they expect their fishing rod to start shaking. However, fishing in Montenegro is quite a different experience. First of all, you can choose a lake, a river or the sea to fish in.
Lake waters are calm and teeming with fish. You can enjoy the shade of hundred-year old trees at the edge of Black Lake or Biogradsko Lake. The last virgin forest in Europe surrounds Biogradsko Lake. You should certainly throw your fish line in Skadar Lake and wait for a carp, a bleak, or a trout to swallow the bait. It is the largest lake in the Balkan Peninsula.
Moraca, Tara, Piva and Bojana rivers are world famous for abundant trout. People fish these rivers for chubs and many other kinds of fish.
The Adriatic Sea is a story in itself. You can fish from the beach, or a fishing boat, or you can throw in a fishnet. You can fish with a harpoon at night or you can set traps. There are many kinds of fish such as San Pier, dentex, sea purch, red porgie, mullet, sardelle, as well as shrimp, lobster, octopus, squid, cuttlefish and many kinds of shellfish.
May your fishnet be full !
You can imagine nothing more beautiful then what nature endowed to this region long time ago , many people would say about Kolasin and its surrounding. Little town settled on the height of 960 meters above the sea, whose blue sky is hidden by the slopes of the mountain Bjelasica, Sinjajevina, Vucje and Kljuca. Woods, the endless pastures, mowed fields in the summer, and unforgettable “snowy fairy tale” with water currents and lakes. “Untouched Switzerland”, was written by the delighted German journalist in 1998, after spending the winter holiday in Kolasin. And whatever the guests w
ant, everything is really at their disposal. If they want to go skiing or sledding they can visit Bjelasica and its neatly arranged skiing and sledding paths with ski lifts, with experienced skiing trainers, of course. If they want some fishering adventure, they can visit one of the water currents teeming in trout, or they can be accompanied by the experienced hunters and the guides in hunt of big and small game. If they choose nothing, they can go on long but not less attractive walks and they will be surrounded by a wilderness on every single step. The exciting rafting along the Tara River usually begins from here. The most famous picnic grounds here are Biogradsko and Sisko lake and then two more lakes Ursulovacka and Pesica lake on the mountain of Bjelasica, then Rikavac above the source of the river Tar, Kapetanovo and the Mahnito lake on Trebjes. And just like some precious stone of the best quality Biogradsko Lake shines before the eyes of the astonished guest. You can reach it along the solid asphalt road.
